I joined the faculty of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2007, after obtaining my J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and my Ph.D. from Penn's Annenberg School for Communication.  In my research, I investigate how law affects people's lives.

I'm the author of Killing McVeigh:  The Death Penalty and the Myth of Closure (New York University Press, 2012) and Taking Baby Steps:  How Patients and Fertility Clinics Collaborate in Conception (University of California Press, 2018), as well as several book chapters and articles.
